Police find pieces of carpet along New York highway

NEW YORK - Police found pieces of carpet near a highway that might be linked to the case of Laura Garza, the missing woman from the Valley.

The carpet was found along a highway about 80 miles northwest of Manhattan. Authorities will be testing it to figure out whether it's linked to Michael Mele. The convicted sex offender is considered a person of interest in the case. He was the last person seen with 25-year-old Garza after she moved to New York from McAllen.

Mele has not been charged, but is being held on a probation violation.
