Man tries to prevent deputies from arresting friend

DONNA - A Donna man is behind bars and charged with assaulting a peace officer.

Police say Antonio Rubalcaba fought with deputies and struck one of them in the head following a traffic stop last night. Investigators say he was trying to stop deputies from arresting another man who was riding in the vehicle with him. During the scuffle, the second man sped off in the vehicle and managed to escape.

Rubalcaba is facing assault and resisting arrest charges.
